LAWRENCEVILLE, Va. - The leader of the national Episcopal Church is asking the faith community to help a small Virginia college in its efforts keep its accreditation.
The Episcopal Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori says in an open letter that Saint Paul's College has provided students with education, achievement, community and service for more than 100 years.
Saint Paul's is working to retain its full accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. The effort includes a campaign to raise $5 million.
Saint Paul's says in a news release that the campaign is $1.2 million short as a May 17 deadline approaches.
A $250,000 challenge grant is being offered by investor Charles M. Royce and his wife Deborah. They will give $1 for every $2 raised through May 17.
