RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A PBS series about the leaders of the 19th century movement to abolish slavery that was filmed in Virginia is set to air in January.

The Virginia Film Office says "The Abolitionists" is set to premiere on Jan. 8 and will air in three parts.

The series was filmed in Petersburg, Richmond and Powhatan County. It is being released in conjunction with the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation issued 1863.

The cast for the Rob Rapley-produced film includes former NBC "Law & Order" actors Neal Huff as William Lloyd Garrison and Richard Brooks as Frederick Douglass. It also features Broadway veteran T. Ryder Smith as John Brown, whose failed raid at a federal arsenal at Harpers Ferry is considered a key event leading up to the Civil War.
