ACCOMAC, Va. - A Virginia Beach police officer who stabbed and shot at two Eastern Shore firefighters will remain behind bars until his trial.
An Accomack County Circuit Judge on Wednesday denied a second request for bond from Bradley Colas. Colas had appealed a General District Court judge's denial earlier this month for a conditional bond that would have released him to an unsecured Virginia Beach psychiatric facility for evaluation.
The 24-year-old is expected to go to trial this summer.
The Virginian-Pilot reports ( http://bit.ly/GXpHcj) that Colas testified during the initial bond hearing that he stabbed and shot at rescue workers who tried to help him when he crashed his car on the side of the road. Colas and his attorney have blamed his actions on a bad reaction to the antibiotic Biaxin.
