Street arts festival to invade D.C. sites this week

Saturday - 5/5/2012, 5:07pm  ET

WASHINGTON - The lunch crowd in the nation's capital may see an invasion of performers with pop-up events planned this coming week as part of a street arts festival from the Kennedy Center.

Lunchtime events are planned Sunday at Eastern Market and the Half Street fair grounds near Nationals Stadium. They will include street theater, costumed characters, a magician and comedian, a juggler and sounds of a circus-punk marching band.

On Monday, a lunchtime invasion is planned at Woodrow Wilson Plaza and later in the week at Farragut Square.

On Friday night, the festival features performers dancing on the face of the Old Post Office tower.

On May 12, the National Children's Museum will host a juggling workshop and other performers will gather for an all-day event at the Yards Park.
