ROSELAND, Va. - Crews have called off a search for a hiker who fell into a ravine in Nelson County.
WVIR-TV ( http://bit.ly/GAeNYX) reports that more than 35 people had searched since Monday night for an unidentified hiker in the Tyro area southwest of Wintergreen. But with no new information, that search was called off shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday.
The search began after the Nelson County Sheriff's Office received a report that there had been two-way radio contact with a man who had fallen into a ravine on the Appalachian Trail.
Rescue workers say this is one of the most dangerous parts of the trail, which spans from Georgia to Maine.
