NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - Canon Virginia plans to hire up to 500 workers over the next four years.
The company has rebounded in recent years after dropping to 1,300 workers in 2006. It now employs 2,000 workers.
Vice President Ron Briggs says an automated plant that manufactures laser cartridges for printers is one of main reasons for the company's resurgence. The Newport News plant opened in 2009.
Briggs tells The Daily Press that demand for laser cartridges has soared over the past 10 years.
Many of the new hires will work at the automated plant, which has three assembly lines. Briggs says seven lines are expected to be added over the new few years.
