RICHMOND, Va. - Boaters are being reminded to give whales their space off the Virginia coast.
That's the warning coming from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's office of law enforcement.
Federal officials say more than 50 separate whales have been spotted near Virginia Beach since December, with as many as 20 being spotted in one day.
The agency says to observe whales from a safe distance of at least 100 yards, and 500 yards for endangered North Atlantic right whales.
