PETERSBURG, Va. - Richard Bland College has a new president.
The College of William and Mary's Board of Visitors has named Debbie Sydow as Richard Bland's fourth president. She is president of Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, N.Y.
Sydow starts at the Petersburg school on July 1. She will succeed James B. McNeer, who is retiring after 16 years as president.
An Abingdon native, Sydow began her career as an English professor at Southwest Virginia Community College in Richlands, Va. She became the dean of humanities and social sciences at the school in 1993.
Richard Bland College is a branch of William and Mary. It serves about 1,600 students and is Virginia's only junior college.
