RICHMOND, Va. - Congressmen from Virginia and other states are calling for a congressional hearing into a tax preparation firm that has received numerous complaints when customers did not receive their tax returns.
Virginia Congressmen Bobby Scott and Scott Rigell joined Reps. Steve Cohen of Tennessee and Bennie Thompson of Mississippi Thursday in writing to the chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime. They asked for a hearing on the interstate activities of Mo Money Taxes.
Scott and Cohen already have asked the Department of Justice to investigate the Memphis, Tenn.-based company.
The lawmakers say they have received complaints about bounced refund checks, refunds that never showed up and fees taken from customers' accounts without their permission.
They claim the company poses "a continuing threat to order and justice across the nation."
