New ways to tackle old chores

WASHINGTON — Pumice stones and denture tablets can offer new ways to tackle old chores.

A wet pumice stone will clear away gunk in your oven quicker than spray-on cleaners.

A Reader’s Digest list of cleaning tips you haven’t heard before also recommends using bubbling denture tablets in your toilet to get rid of water rings. Wait at least 30 minutes or overnight before brushing the water ring away.

Using lemon oil on bathroom tiles will make them shine and help prevent mold and mildew.

Vinegar and water is a good deodorizer if you spray it in your shower after bathing. The vinegar smell will fade fairly quickly.

To clean glass and mirrors, try using coffee filters.

Dusting might seem like one of those never ending chores, but there’s a way to help prevent dust from building up on window blinds. Wipe down closed blinds with a dryer sheet and static cling won’t attract dust to the blinds in the first place.
