CUMBERLAND, Md. - U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin is visiting one of the oldest Jewish temples in Maryland during a campaign swing through the western part of the state.

Cardin's schedule Friday includes a stop at the B'er Chayim temple in Cumberland. The synagogue was built in 1866. It was added in 1975 to the National Register of Historic Places.

Cardin's trip begins with a round-table discussion with employers and job-seekers in Frederick. Then the first-term Democrat travels to Hagerstown for a senior citizen forum.

After the Cumberland stop, Cardin is bound for Firefly Farms in Accident. The farm produces goat cheese that has won national awards.
