ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Author and death penalty opponent Sister Helen Prejean plans to visit Annapolis to call for a repeal of capital punishment in Maryland.

The author of "Dead Man Walking" plans to listen to Gov. Martin O'Malley's State of the State address on Wednesday. Prejean also plans to meet with legislators to show her support for legislation to repeal the death penalty in Maryland.

O'Malley said earlier this month that he believes the General Assembly has the will to ban capital punishment this session. The governor's last effort stalled in 2009.

Maryland has five men on death row. Maryland's death penalty has been on hold since a 2006 court ruling found the state's lethal injection protocols weren't properly approved by a legislative committee. Executions can't resume until the protocols are approved.
