Delmarva Power to rebuild transmission line

Friday - 1/6/2012, 8:51am  ET

EASTON, Md. - Delmarva Power is rebuilding a transmission line to enhance electric service reliability on Maryland's Eastern Shore and in central and southern Delaware.

Construction along a 17-mile right-of-way between Easton and Hurlock to rebuild the 69,000-volt line is scheduled to begin next month and wrap up in December. The existing circuit will be rebuilt and wooden poles will be replaced with more durable weathering steel and galvanized poles.

Region Vice President John Allen says the project will help avoid extended power outages and benefit customers in Talbot, Caroline and Dorchester counties. Choptank Electric Cooperative, which has two substations with a direct feed from the line, expects the project to improve service to its members, too.

Community meetings on the project are planned this month in Easton and Preston.
