WASHINGTON - The U.S. Capitol Police has a new assistant chief and chief of operations.

The agency says Thomas P. Reynolds was promoted from the rank of deputy chief.

He joined the Capitol Police in 1984 after six years with the United States Army Military Police.

He's held various positions since then, including leading the department's dignitary protection division. He also was assigned as the first inspector to manage the Library of Congress division following the 2004 merger of the Library of Congress Police with the U.S. Capitol Police.
