NEW YORK (AP) -- After dropping 10 of their last 13 games, the Brooklyn Nets have fired coach Avery Johnson. The team's GM Billy King announced the move today without saying who will be interim coach. But according to someone with knowledge of the plans, assistant coach P.J. Carlesimo (kar-LIHS'-ih-moh) will coach the Nets at home tomorrow night against Charlotte.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) -- Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman has won his appeal of a four-game suspension for use of performance enhancing substances, making him eligible for the NFL playoffs. In his appeal, Sherman had blamed his positive test on errors in the chain of custody of his sample and mistakes made by the tester. The decision was made by former NFL executive Bob Wallace.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) -- New York Jets coach Rex Ryan began today's press conference by saying, "You're not going to believe this." Then he told reporters that quarterback Greg McElroy has a concussion -- which he didn't reveal until today. Ryan says McElroy was lifting weights this morning and started experiencing headaches before revealing to team trainers he was suffering concussion-like symptoms. Ryan says Mark Sanchez will start in place of McElroy Sunday at Buffalo.

DALLAS (AP) -- Police say Dallas Cowboys nose tackle Josh Brent was driving with a suspended license and had a blood-alcohol content more than twice the legal limit at the time of the car crash that killed teammate Jerry Brown. Documents released by police say that after the Dec. 8th crash, Brent tested at 0.189 percent, well above the Texas limit of 0.08.

JOLIET, Ill. (AP) -- Carlton Fisk has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor DUI charge in suburban Chicago. The Hall of Fame catcher was sentenced today to one year of court supervision and he must pay $1,250 in court costs. The 64-year-old Fisk must also undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation and counseling. Police found Fisk asleep in a cornfield on Oct. 22 and said there was an open bottle of vodka on the floor.
