For many at Rutgers University, a concern bigger than the problems plaguing the athletic department is how the school will seamlessly absorb two medical schools and other institutions in coming months.
Ensuring the schools in integrated is one reason New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has given for defending Rutgers President Robert Barchi.
Some Democrats have called for Barchi to resign after the latest problem in the athletic department. Last week, it came to light that players on the Tennessee volleyball team that incoming athletic director Julie Hermann coached in the 1990s complained that she verbally abused them.
The integration of the new schools into Rutgers is set for July 1.
