American University hires William Walker as new AD

WASHINGTON (AP) -- William "Billy" Walker is the new athletic director at American University.
Walker has been the deputy AD and a professor at the Air Force Academy.
AU announced his hiring Thursday. Walker replaces Keith Gill, who left American in December to become Richmond's AD.
Walker is a member of the NCAA Division I men's ice hockey committee and has served as chairman of the NCAA Division I wrestling committee. He graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1983.
