BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - Virginia Tech plans to retest its alert system this week on the Blacksburg campus.
The test of the VT Alerts system is scheduled to occur between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday. Outdoor sirens will not be used.
The retest is being conducted to ensure that a minor technical upgrade will work during a full-scale alert.
It will be sent to the school's home Web page and Twitter account, as well as through e-mail, classroom electronic message boards, phone calls and alerts sent to computers.
Virginia Tech expanded its emergency notification system following the mass shootings in April 2007 in which 33 people died.
