Pr. George's school board considers cutting student member

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) - The Prince George's County Board of Education is considering barring its student member from attending executive sessions.

The Washington Post reports that board members who support the move say the high school student shouldn't be privy to certain information in the meetings. Opponents question whether the board has the authority to exclude the student.

The matter is politically sensitive. The incumbent student member will be succeeded in August by the sister of Raaheela Ahmed, a college student challenging the board chairman in the fall election.

The board discussed the proposed change last week. It's unclear when they will take a final vote.
