CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Four private liberal arts colleges in West Virginia and one in Virginia will share faculty this fall in a pilot project to reduce costs.

The University of Charleston says the Teagle Foundation has awarded a $150,000 grant for the project.

The other participating schools are Bethany College, Davis & Elkins College, West Virginia Wesleyan College and Emory & Henry College.

Using distance education technology, one faculty member will teach remedial or developmental math classes to students at all five schools. Local facilitators at each school will help with hands-on instruction.

The faculty member will be hired by the Independent College Enterprise, a consortium of private schools with less than 2,000 students.

Also, some American history courses at West Virginia Wesleyan will be offered to students at the University of Charleston.
