RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- U.S. Sen. Mark Warner admits he's more of a wine guy than a beer guy, but it's hard to ignore an industry that he called a "business multiplier."
The Virginia Democrat discussed the craft beer industry during a roundtable at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery in Richmond on Wednesday.
Warner sampled some of the beers and fielded questions from craft breweries from around the state on a range of issues.
The former governor also stressed the importance of the beer industry in Virginia, which generates nearly 52,000 jobs and $1.3 billion in taxes.
Warner said he's co-sponsoring a federal bill that would change the taxes smaller breweries pay on the beer they produce. He also listened to concerns over how the federal health care overhaul would impact small businesses.
