BRUSSELS (AP) -- The German defense minister is taking back comments he made earlier Friday that the U.S. was planning to leave 8,000 to 12,000 troops in Afghanistan after 2014.
German Defense Minister Thomas de Maiziere issued a statement saying his comments were "misleading."
He said he was referring to an international force, which is in line with comments by Defense Secretary Leon Panetta at a NATO defense ministers meeting.
