Maryland ready to hit the polls for early voting

WASHINGTON — Virginia voters sent shockwaves through the political establishment and proved plenty of pundits wrong in Tuesday’s primary election. Now, Maryland voters will have their say at the polls.

Thursday is the first day of early voting in the Old Line State.

This is the first-ever June primary in Maryland, and Margie Roher, public information officer with the Montgomery County Board of Elections, says that’s made for some complications in getting ready for the elections.

“We’ve had a little bit of difficulty in some areas, like recruiting election judges,” she says.

Roher says her office has received some calls from voters wondering where to cast their ballots during the early voting period.

“Don’t go to your usual neighborhood polling place,” she warns.

Instead, Roher says, there are nine designated early voting centers in Montgomery County.

Prince George’s County has eight locations where voters can cast ballots through June 19. In each county across the state, they’ll be able to vote from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Roher says the best time to cast votes is midday — that’s when wait times are lowest.
