TRIPOLI, Libya (AP) -- Hundreds of Libyan protesters have rallied against the interim parliament's decision to extend its mandate for nearly a year, delaying the drafting of the constitution and the holding of elections.

In a cold rain, protesters gathered Friday in a Tripoli city square chanted "No to extension" and "Leave, leave." Similar protests took place in the eastern city of Benghazi and in western Misrata, witnesses said.

According to the old timetable, the current interim parliament should have elected a constituent panel, drafted the constitution, held a referendum on it and then called for parliamentary elections before February. On Monday, the parliament set Dec. 24, 2014, as the new deadline.
