McLEAN, Va. - Northern Virginia voters will join the rest of the state in casting ballots for a series of primary elections.
In addition to Tuesday's statewide GOP Senate primary in which Prince William County Delegate Bob Marshall is one of several challengers to frontrunner George Allen, two House districts in northern Virginia are holding primaries.
In the 8th district, Democrat Bruce Shuttleworth is looking to unseat longtime incumbent Jim Moran. And in the 11th, Republicans Chris Perkins and Ken Vaughn are vying to take on Democrat Gerry Connolly.
At the local level, Alexandria has a heavily contested Democratic primary for city council, with 14 candidates on the ballot.
Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Virginia does not register voters by party, so the contests are open to all voters.
