Georgetown student dies after battling meningitis

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University students and staff will gather for a prayer service Tuesday evening to remember a fellow student who died after battling a diagnosed case of meningitis.

In a campus-wide email, university officials say that Andrea Jaime died at the MedStar Georgetown University Hospital Tuesday. However her exact cause of death has not yet been determined.

“This is difficult news for the many members of the Georgetown community who know Andrea. Georgetown officials have been in touch with Andrea’s family and will continue to provide support and assistance to them. Please join us in remembering Andrea’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this time,” the email reads.

The university did not specify the type of meningitis, which can be caused by bacteria, a virus or even an injury, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
