ROANOKE, Va. (AP) -- A Virginia Board of Nursing panel has reprimanded a nurse who gave a teenager more than twice the recommended dosage of a narcotic.
The two-member panel found that YeVonne Powers violated regulations governing patients' health and welfare.
The Roanoke Times (http://bit.ly/1gmoo6Y ) reports that the panel issued the reprimand Monday following an administrative hearing. Powers' attorney, Chris Stevens, said they haven't decided whether to appeal the reprimand to the full nursing board.
Powers is a registered nurse at Med Express in Roanoke County. On April 4, she followed Dr. Joyce Luteyn's order to give 17-year-old Jessica Erin Hart of Montvale 4 milligrams of Dilaudid.
Hart died seven hours later. An autopsy found that her death was caused by complications from mononucleosis.
Powers told the board that she trusted the doctor.
