Student charged with sending threatening texts

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) -- A high school student in Virginia Beach faces charges after allegedly sending threatening text messages to another student.

WAVY reports ( ) that the 17-year-old Kempsville High School student is charged with one count of electronically communicated threats to commit serious bodily harm, which is a felony. She also faces two counts of misdemeanor destruction of property and two counts of misdemeanor use of profane, threatening language over a public airway.

Police say the victim's parents notified school officials, leading to an investigation of incidents involving three victims that took place between February and October of 2013.

The defendant was released to the care of her parents. She also faces possible expulsion from school.

The student was not identified due to her age.
