Va. borrowers to receive mortgage settlement forms

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — About 3,770 Virginia borrowers could receive payments under a multistate mortgage settlement.

Attorney General Mark R. Herring said Wednesday that claim forms are being distributed this week. Eligible borrowers include those who lost their homes to foreclosure between January 1, 2009 and December 31, and whose mortgages were serviced by Ocwen Financial Corp., Litton Loan Servicing LP and Homeward Residential Holdings LLC.

Ocwen had previously bought the other companies.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and 49 state attorneys general announced the $2.1 billion settlement with Ocwen last December. The settlement went into effect in late February.

Regulators said Ocwen pushed borrowers into foreclosure through illegal actions, such as failing to promptly and accurately credit mortgage payments.

The deadline to submit claim forms is Sept. 15.
