Friday - 4/5/2013, 2:20pm  ET

DALLAS (AP) -- The CEO of Southwest Airlines received $4 million in compensation for 2012. That's up 15 percent from the prior year, largely because of bigger stock awards.

Southwest says in a regulatory filing that Gary Kelly got a salary of $675,000 and a $961,000 bonus last year.

Most of Kelly's compensation is in stock awards, worth $2.25 million, according to the filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission

Kelly joined Southwest in 1986 and held a succession of finance jobs including chief financial officer. He was named CEO in 2004 and added the chairman's title in 2008.
