EMC reported earnings on July 24. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended June 30 (Q2), EMC met expectations on revenues and met expectations on earnings per share.

EPS came in at $0.42. The 38 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ predicted $0.42 per share. Non-GAAP EPS of $0.42 for Q2 were 7.7% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.39 per share. GAAP EPS of $0.32 for Q2 were 10% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.29 per share.

Margin details
For the quarter, gross margin was 62.5%, 10 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 18.3%, 40 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 12.5%, 30 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. (Margins calculated in GAAP terms.)

Looking ahead
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $5.79 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.46.
