US Airways Group Beats Analyst Estimates on EPS

US Airways Group reported earnings on July 24. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended June 30 (Q2), US Airways Group met expectations on revenues and beat expectations on earnings per share.

Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue expanded slightly. Non-GAAP earnings per share dropped slightly. GAAP earnings per share shrank.

US Airways Group tallied revenue of $3.87 billion. The six analysts polled by S&P Capital IQ expected a top line of $3.84 billion on the same basis. GAAP reported sales were the same as the prior-year quarter's.

EPS details
EPS came in at $1.58. The 12 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ predicted $1.51 per share. Non-GAAP EPS of $1.58 for Q2 were 1.9% lower than the prior-year quarter's $1.61 per share. GAAP EPS of $1.40 for Q2 were 9.1% lower than the prior-year quarter's $1.54 per share.

Margin details
For the quarter, gross margin was 26.4%, 220 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 13.1%, 200 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 7.4%, 80 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. (Margins calculated in GAAP terms.)

Looking ahead
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $3.69 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.73.
