TORONTO (AP) — An Air Canada flight from Toronto to Brazil was ordered to return four hours into the flight after it was discovered that a male passenger had boarded without proper screening.

Air Canada spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick said Thursday that Flight AC 090 left for Sao Paolo late Wednesday, but Transport Canada ordered the plane back to Toronto.

A passenger says the plane was surrounded by police and security officials after it landed Thursday morning.

Peel regional police Cst. George Tudos says there was no criminality involved, and the man was released after an interview. Tudos says there was a breach at the security checkpoint but declined to release details.

Transport Minister Lisa Raitt declined to say how it happened, for security reasons.
