Pussy Riot member transferred to Siberian prison

Tuesday - 11/12/2013, 2:41pm  ET

MOSCOW (AP) -- Russia's human rights ombudsman says imprisoned Pussy Riot band member Nadezhda Tolokonnikova has been transferred to a prison in Siberia.

Her whereabouts had been unknown, and her husband has complained that he has had no contact with her for weeks.

Tolokonnikova received a two-year sentence following the band's provocative political protest in Moscow's main cathedral in early 2012.

She went on a hunger strike in September to protest prison conditions and was hospitalized. The prison service later said she would be transferred.

Rights ombudsman Vladimir Lukin told Russian news agencies on Tuesday that Tolokonnikova is in a medical unit at a prison in the Krasnoyarsk region of Siberia.

He did not name the prison, but said official notice of her whereabouts would be sent to her relatives and lawyers soon.
