Top 10 happiest countries in the world

WASHINGTON – The top 10 list of the happiest countries is in.

So, where does the U.S. fall? Well, it falls short – not making the top 10 at all. It did come in 14th though, right behind Israel but before Ireland.

The annual survey from the Organisation for Economic Co- operation ranked 36 countries on a variety of quality of life metrics to arrive at its rankings for the Better Life Index.

Some of the metrics included income, education, environment and jobs.

While the U.S. doesn’t make the top 10, for the third year in a row, it scored well overall.

For example, the U.S. scored the highest when it came to income and financial wealth, however, it dropped to the middle, scoring 5.8, on civic engagement.

Here’s are the top 10 countries:

  1. Switzerland
  2. Norway
  3. Iceland
  4. Sweden
  5. Denmark
  6. Netherlands
  7. Austria
  8. Canada
  9. Finland
  10. Mexico
