UK court convicts man of funding Stockholm bomber

Friday - 7/20/2012, 12:00pm  ET

LONDON (AP) - A Scottish jury has convicted an Algerian man of funding terrorism in relation to a 2010 suicide bomb attack in Sweden, but cleared him of conspiracy to murder.

Nasserdine Menni was found guilty Friday of conspiring with and sending money to Taimour Abdulwahab, who blew himself up amid panicked Christmas shoppers in downtown Stockholm on Dec. 11, 2010.

Prosecutors said Menni had transferred funds to Abdulwahab between 2005 and 2010 in the knowledge that the money would be used for terrorism.

Menni, who had denied all charges, was cleared of conspiracy to murder, but convicted of funding terrorism at the High Court in Glasgow.

Abdulwahab's bombing injured two people and sent shockwaves across Sweden, a country which until then had largely been insulated from terrorism.
