FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (AP) -- The state Board of Medicine has suspended the license of a Stafford County doctor who faces 95 criminal charges.
The Free Lance-Star (http://bit.ly/171kYFI ) reports that 54-year-old Nibedita Mohanty accepted the board's three-year suspension and didn't contest its findings. She didn't admit any wrongdoing in a recent agreement with the board.
Mohanty was arrested in May and charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of a patient. She also faces 72 counts of felony distribution of narcotics and 22 counts of obtaining money by false pretenses through insurance fraud.
According to court records, the manslaughter charge stems from the 2011 death of woman who overdosed on drugs. Mohanty is accused of repeatedly prescribing pain medication for the woman despite warning signs that it was being abuse.
Mohanty has denied any wrongdoing.
