MANASSAS, Va. (AP) - Some personal effects of the commander of the legendary Stonewall Brigade are returning to the northern Virginia Civil War battlefield where he was killed.
The descendants of Col. William S.H. Baylor have donated two swords, a pair of dress uniform epaulets, a walking stick, family photographs and documents. They were given to the Manassas National Battlefield Park museum from the estate of the late Baylor Landrum Jr.
The Landrum family from Moberly, Mo., personally delivered the collection to the park this spring. The Landrums said the items are important for future generations to help them understand the Second Battle of Manassas.
The donation is timely as the park prepares to observe the battle's 150th anniversary.
