MANASSAS, Va. - Utility officials are blaming a power outage in Manassas on a squirrel.
The News & Messenger in Manassas reports that a wide swath of the city was without power Monday for about 35 minutes after a squirrel walked across equipment at the Battery Heights substation.
Director of city utilities Michael Moon says the power went out at about 1:15 p.m. and was restored to most residents by 1:50 p.m. Moon says city officials do take precautions to keep squirrels from getting to sensitive equipment at power substations, but sometimes they do get through.(Copyright 2011 The Associated Press.
