Fairfax County identifies man who died in fire

WASHINGTON – The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department has identified the man who died in a house fire in the Alexandria section of the county a week ago.

Kirkland Stewart, 68, died in the townhouse fire in the 6900 block of Deer Run Drive around 4 a.m. Nov. 7.

Stewart was the county’s seventh fire death this year.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

It took more than 50 department personnel about 50 minutes to extinguish the fire.

Officials say the home was a total loss.
