Runway closed at Detroit airport after tires burst

ROMULUS, Mich. (AP) — A runway at Detroit Metropolitan Airport has been temporarily closed after two tires burst on a plane after it landed.

No injuries were reported after US Airways flight 2088 from Charlotte, North Carolina, landed Monday night at the airport in Romulus.

Casey Norton, a spokesman for the airline, tells The Detroit News that 136 passengers and five crew members on board were bused to the airport gate. The cause of the ruptures is under investigation.

Airport spokesman Mike Conway says the runway will be closed as crews check for debris and possible pavement damage. WWJ-AM reports the runway remained closed Tuesday morning. Conway says the airport wants to ensure that the runway is safe.

Other runways at the airport are available for flights to and from Detroit Metro.
