ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) -- An Alexandria man caught in an undercover sting selling a pipe bomb for $800 along with other homemade weapons has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Thirty-four-year-old Vytlingum "Tony" Kandasawmi (vitt-ling-GUM' kann-deh-seh-WAH'-mee) admitted as part of a guilty plea earlier this year that he also sold homemade grenades and flamethrowers last year in Manassas and Fairfax County to an undercover police officer. Kandasawmi was told that the pipe bomb would be used in a murder attempt.
At a sentencing hearing Monday in federal court in Alexandria, U.S. District Court Judge Gerald Bruce Lee imposed a 10-year sentence, longer than the eight-year term sought by prosecutors.
Defense attorneys did not respond Monday to emails seeking comment.
A co-defendant, 51-year-old Tony Robert Brooks of Spotsylvania County, will be sentenced next month.
