‘Bye ‘bye lullaby: Parents sub classics with pop tunes

WASHINGTON – Forget singing “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” to lull babies to sleep. Modern folks are now crooning Guns and Roses’ “Sweet Child O’Mine” to their little ones.

Songs by pop stars, such as Adele, Bruno Mars and Rihanna, are pushing cherished nursery rhymes out of the nursery, according to a new survey published in The Daily Mail.

More than a quarter of the 2,000 parents surveyed by Symphony in B, the maker of a popular musical toy, said their kids request pop tunes over the traditional lullabies, and singing the song together is a great bonding experience.

But do not toss out the old fashioned tunes so fast, says Jonathon Thorpe, managing director of the toy’s distributor.

Seventy percent of kids, according to parents surveyed, want to sing classic nursery rhymes at least twice a week.
