Harbor boats cleared in preparation for Blue Angels

WASHINGTON — When the Blue Angels are doing their diamond rolls and delta break-outs, they can’t afford distractions.

For the squadron’s performance this weekend in Baltimore, an area of the harbor has to be cleared of all recreational and commercial boats.

“We have to maintain ‘the box’ throughout the entire rehearsal and throughout the two performances this weekend,” says Candy Thomson, a spokesperson for the Maryland Natural Resources Police.

She says the clearance is not because the performance poses a threat to the boats below.

“We don’t want [the Blue Angels] to have any distractions,” she says of the show line that goes over the water.
