Saturday - 1/5/2013, 12:20pm  ET

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The National Gallery of Art will host the world premiere of a new musical composition created to accompany artist Edvard Munch's "Frieze of Life" series of paintings.

"The Munch Suite" by flutist Andreas Sonning and composer Kjell Habbestad will debut at the museum on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. The piece consists of seven movements interpreting a corresponding painting by Munch.

A projection of each painting with text by Munch will be shown as musicians perform.

The Royal Norwegian Embassy is presenting the concert with the museum as 2013 marks the 150th anniversary of Munch's birth. The concert is free to the public and will feature the National Gallery of Art Orchestra.

Last year, Munch's "The Scream" sold for nearly $120 million, becoming the most expensive artwork ever sold at auction.
