Eno wine bar, Eat the Rich, Caffe Aficionado all opening

Georgetown’s newest wine destination, Eno, opened Friday at 2810 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, next door to the Four Seasons hotel.

The wine bar in a retrofitted row house is from an affiliate company of the Four Seasons, and its first location in D.C. There are several other Enos around the country, including in Chicago, San Diego and San Francisco.

The bar will feature eight to 12 wine flights and a wine list that mixes old and new world selections, with almost half the list priced at less than $50. Eno is also working with local producers for the restaurant’s food menu, including Cherry Glenn Goat Cheese from Maryland, charcuteries from Stachowski’s Market in D.C. and Gearhart’s chocolate from Richmond.

The 72-seat wine bar is open Mon-Sat. at 4 p.m. and at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Eat the Rich

Eat the Rich, an oyster bar from prolific barman Derek Brown and his team with the Rappahannock Oyster Company, opened Saturday.

Rappahannock’s oysters are the main event, along with other raw bar items and dishes that pull from the Chesapeake Bay region. Chef Julian Shapiro said during a preview last week he is trying to pull as many products as possible from “Carolina to Cape Cod.”

The bar menu includes cocktails made en mass in pitchers and oyster shooters, including an oyster pickleback in pickle brine. The bar is at 1839 7th St. NW, just next door to Brown’s other recently opened bar, Mockingbird Hill.

Caffe Aficionado

A new coffee shop opened in Rosslyn Monday, bringing a higher end coffee experience to the Waterview building at 1919 N. Lynn St. The shop is from Adiam Berhane, and serves coffee from Handsome Coffee Roasters out of Los Angeles, Calif.

Initially the shop will mainly serve pastries, but Berhane told the Rosslyn BID that she plans to begin serving sandwiches within the first few weeks.

Coffee Closures

While there is good coffee news for Rosslyn, a couple of other D.C. local coffee shops called it quits in recent days.

Columbia Heights Coffee has closed its doors on 11th Street NW, as several media outlets noted last week. The shop had been there for nearly a decade, since before any of the other popular 11th Street establishments — Red Rocks, El Chucho and Kangraroo Boxing Club — had opened.

The shop’s business may have suffered in the past year, however, due to the opening of The Coupe, a large coffee house, bar and restaurant from the owners of Tryst in Adams Morgan. While Columbia Heights Coffee used to be full of patrons drinking coffee and working on laptops, The Coupe also attracts a large populations of remote-work clientele.

Also closed now is Big Chair Cafe Bar & Grill in Anacostia, a coffee shop that opened in 2010. The shop posted about the closing on its Facebook page Oct. 14; noting that owner Michael Sterling is now an investor in Mama’s BBQ, Blues & Pizza.

Sterling has brought a few favorites over to Mama’s with him, including Jamaican menu items such as jerk, curry and brown stew chicken and coco bread.
