Ruth’s Chris Steak House headed for Gaithersburg

It looks like the Downtown Crown development in Gaithersburg will be a place for steak lovers when it opens next year.

Ruth’s Chris Steak House has signed a lease for 9,624 square feet at the mixed-use development, according to developer JBG Rosenfeld Retail. When complete, Downtown Crown will include 260,000 square feet of retail and 538 residential units.

Other chains in the neighborhood include Coastal Flats, Asia Nine, Paladar Latin Kitchen and Rum Bar — which I reported on earlier this year — La Tagliatella and more.

Ruth’s Chris is part of Winter Park, Fla.-based Ruth’s Hospitality Group Inc., which owns several other steakhouse and fish market chains.

The restaurant is known for its “sizzling steaks” served hot off the grill. It is a significant lease for Downtown Crown, which has now leased more than 50 percent of its retail space. JBG Rosenfeld sees Ruth’s Chris as the kind of destination dining that will complement the other tenants.

The development is expected to open in spring 2014.
