De Blasio a fan but not a visitor of the High Line

NEW YORK (AP) — Mayor Bill de Blasio is a fan of New York City’s High Line but says he has never been to the elevated public park.

The mayor said Wednesday the popular park has “done a lot of good for the city” but he has yet to visit it.

The park’s third and final stage opened last month. The occasion brought out other politicians including Sen. Charles Schumer and City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito.

De Blasio said he had no immediate plans to walk along the 22-block walkway but that he looks forward to it.

The High Line is one of the nation’s most distinctive urban transformations. The abandoned elevated freight rails have been turned into a linear oasis of flowers, grasses and trees.

Last year it had 4.8 million visitors.
