Hot Wheels: Lamborghini's Huracan sleek throughout

GENEVA (AP) -- Lamborghini's newest supercar, the Huracan LP-610, already occupies an important place in the company's lineup as this year's replacement for the Gallardo, its top-selling model of all time.

The Italian company took the wraps off the elegant and futuristic Huracan -- Spanish for hurricane -- this week at the Geneva Motor Show. The car's body, 10 percent lighter than the Gallardo, is built around a hybrid chassis and has new aluminum and carbon fiber components and a powerful engine.

UNDER THE HOOD: A 5.2-liter, 610-horsepower V-10 that transmits power to all four wheels through a new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Lamborghini estimates a zero-to-62 mph (0-100 kph) time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 202 mph (325 kph).

INSIDE: Like the Gallardo, the Huracan caters to well-heeled sports car enthusiasts. The interior comes standard in black with soft Nappa leather and Alcantara, a suede-like material, on the heated seats, door panels and dashboard. There's also a 12.3-inch color instrument panel for car and infotainment data.

OUTSIDE: The low slung sports car builds on the Gallardo's sleek lines, with a new silhouette that has big side air intakes, a grille with mesh inserts and LED-only headlamps.

FUEL ECONOMY: The company says it gets almost 19 miles per gallon, or 12.5 liters per 100 kilometers under the European standard, which combines city and highway conditions.

PRICE: The starting price tag is 169,500 euros ($233,000), not including tax. Production has begun and deliveries are expected in coming months.

CHEERS: The Huracan is drawing wide interest and company officials say it has already taken some 1,000 orders. The new supercar has big wheels to fill: Since the Gallardo was first introduced at the 2003 Geneva Motor Show, Lamborghini built over 14,000 of those models, making it the company's best-selling product.

JEERS: Only if you can't handle the electronically controlled shocks and huge carbon-ceramic disk brakes that provide for the sudden stops and starts in a vehicle the company describes as "like a time machine," only faster.
