RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia roads could be a little less crowded this upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.
The AAA projects that 1.2 million Virginians will travel 50 miles or more from home over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The auto club says that's a decrease of 1.6 percent from last year.
The holiday travel period is defined as Wednesday, Nov. 27, through Sunday, Dec. 1.
Besides fewer travelers, those who do hit the road for the holiday will find gas prices around Virginia at 2010 levels. The Triple A says travelers could find gas at prices below $3 a gallon in locations such as Danville, Harrisonburg and Roanoke.
Statewide, pump prices are averaging $3.15 a gallon, down a dime from last year.
